The next committee to debate and vote on the budget is the Senate Appropriations Committee. Because the budget has moved from the North Carolina House of Representatives to the Senate, we will be contacting people who have not heard from us before. They need to hear our original message: We are different from the rest of the ferries because we have no free alternative to our homes. Our annual salaries are below the average annual salaries in other North Carolina communities. We cannot afford to lose our tourist business. However you wrote your letters and whatever you said in your phone calls worked before so let's do it again!
Here is an example letter:
Dear Senator ______ We are grateful that the House members recognized our concerns regarding the Ocracoke Hatteras ferry and I am writing to respectfully request that you keep the Ocracoke ammendment intact. As you may know Ocracoke is unique in that we are only accessible by ferry and one of our routes is already a toll route. We are not asking for a special privilege, on the contrary we do not wish to be singled out as the only community in North Carolina which would have to pay a toll to go home. Ocracoke is a beautiful North Carolina treasure, we hope you will come and visit us soon. Thank you,
